Speaking at the TK Surf School in Portrush, he added: “Tourism is one of the North’s key economic drivers.
“Visitors come here for our beautiful landscapes and stunning heritage but they come back again and again because of the warmth of our people and the depth of our tourism product.
“Without doubt, one of the best tourism initiatives undertaken by the Government in the South is the development of the Wild Atlantic Way.
“The west coast of Ireland is home to some of the most heart-stopping rugged scenery in the world.
“The redevelopment of roads and towns around the coast to become the Wild Atlantic Way has been a resounding success.
“I have no doubt though that our North coast can compete on an equal footing.
“Why compete, though, when we can enhance what’s on offer by working together? I know that the same visitors with a thirst for adventure and exploration would love to come across from Donegal to experience the thrill of crossing Carrick-a-Rede or take in the inspiring scenes at Mussenden.
“That’s why I’m writing to Tourism Ireland, Tourism NI and Minister Heather Humphreys to discuss the plan further.”
