SHOPKEEPERS in Derry are being urged to be on the guard against criminals trying to purchase goods with counterfeit bank notes.
It follows several incidents on Wednesday of this week in the city.
A PSNI spokesperson said: “Police in Strand Road received four separate reports on Wednesday regarding a male person attempting to purchase small items in pharmacies in the city using fake Bank of Scotland £20 notes.
“All businesses should remain on the lookout for anyone trying to pass fake banknotes.”
Scottish bank notes are less common than Bank of England notes and businesses should be on high alert to detect anyone trying to pass counterfeit alternatives.
