DERRY City have slumped to their second league defeat of the season tonight after losing 2-0 at the Brandywell to Sligo Rover Rovers.
Goals from Raffaele Cretaro on 26 minutes and Jimmy Keohane made it two goals to the good on 69 minutes.
It was a disappointing result after the Candy Stripes had beaten Sligo in the EA Sports Cup.
Kenny Shiels had been hoping to his team could continue their 100 per cent winning record in recent games.
City had no defeats since the opening game which they lost away to Finn Harps.
Dave Robertson brought his side to the Brandywell looking to build on their 3-0 victory last week against Longford Town.
And that’s they did and leave Derry tonight with three points under their belts.
Meanwhile, Derry’s table topping rivals Dundalk continued with their winning streak.
Daryl Horgan’s brace propelled the Louth side four points clear at the top of the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division table as the reigning champions beat Bohemians 2-0 at Dalymount Park.
Horgan gave Stephen Kenny’s side the lead with a delicious 38th-minute free-kick before securing the win in the second half when he bundled the ball over the line.
The victory moves Dundalk four points clear of Cork City at the summit and extends their unbeaten run on the road to 25 league games.
