POLICE searched a home in Derry this morning as part of an ongoing investigation a paramilitary display yesterday at the funeral of ‘New IRA’ member Michael Barr in Strabane.
Derry and Strabane police boss Supt Mark McEwan said today: “Police are conducting a number of searches in Derry City and Strabane District this morning.
“These are linked to the policing operation at the funeral of Michael Barr in Strabane yesterday.”
One of the searches took place at a house in the Circular Road of Derry’s Creggan district.
A total of 15 men are still being questioned about the funeral.
They were arrested under section 41 of the Terrorism Act following a paramilitary display at the funeral of the dissident Barr who was shot dead in Dublin as part of ongoing feud between rival criminal gangs.
They are still being held at the serious crime custody suite in Musgrave PSNI station in Belfast being questioned by detectives from the police’s North West-based Terrorist Investigation Unit.
After 48 hours of questioning, police will have to either charge or release them. Detectives can also apply for an extension to their detention.
