SINN Fein councillor Eric McGinley has heaped praise on all those who took part in Derry City and Strabane District Council sports awards at the weekend.
“Almost 60 individuals and clubs were nominated for awards across a number of categories including coaching, youth, disability, gender and teams,” said Cllr McGinley.
“The ability, commitment and excellence of all the participants was clear to see and the recipients of the awards typified the sporting spirit which exists within the council area.
“None was this more amply demonstrated when Mark Farren was posthumously awarded for the example he has set as a sporting competitor and as a person.
“The awards ceremony heard from Packie Bonner and Hannah Shields and the night provided an appropriate platform upon which to celebrate the sporting achievements of all who participated,” he added.
