END PENNYBURN TRAFFIC ‘GRIDLOCK’ – HASSAN

SINN Féin Councillor Tony Hassan has called for the introduction of personnel to operate a traffic control system in place in Pennyburn whilst a new street lighting system is put in place.

Motorists have been complaining that the current system in place is causing traffic snarl ups which is also having a knock-on effect on local businesses.

Said Councillor Hassan: “Like everyone who uses the area on a daily basis I welcome the installation of a new lighting system there.

“But in my opinion and those who have been contacting me with complaints, the automated lights system is not giving a free flow of traffic and is causing gridlock in the entire area and all the various access roads.

“I am appealing to Transport NI and the PSNI to look at this situation as a matter of urgency, and introduce personnel on the ground to operate the lights.

“And to observe the flow of  traffic at peak times of the day.

“As well as motorists being affected this is bound to be having an impact on businesses along the Buncrana Road and residents getting in and out of their homes,” he added.
