SINN Féin Housing spokesperson Councillor Tony Hassan has welcomed the news that Choice and Apex housing associations have secured a combined £280m from the European Investment Bank to help build thousands of new social homes across the north.
Said Cllr Hassan: “This is good news for the thousands of people in Derry and across the six counties who are on the ever growing housing waiting lists.
“Like many in the city I would hope this could unlock the potential of the H2 site on the Buncrana Road proving much needed homes and hundreds of construction jobs.”
He added: “The Housing Executive must also to be able to get the right to borrow not only to maintain property but to build.
“The Housing Executive must become a provider as well as just a landlord, and our party will continue to lobby for that in the times ahead.”
