A DERRY woman is the toast of Sweden’s footballing contingent in France after reuniting a fan with his lost ticket.
Carmel McConnellogue from Derry is in France to support Martin O’Neill’s boys in green in their bid to make it past the group qualifiers against the likes of Sweden, Ukraine and Germany.
She’s one of the many great supporters who’ve made their way down to France that have given us such a good name this tournament.
While walking to yesterday’s match with Sweden, she against all odds found a ticket to the game on the ground.
She picked it up and started to look around for the owner but there was none to be found.
She continued on her path while keeping an eye out for security to hand the ticket to or potential owners.
As luck would have it, after walking for five minutes, she came across a couple of Swedish fans who looked distraught about something.
It turns out one of them had lost their ticket, the one which Carmel had picked up, and they were over the moon when Carmel presented it to them.
They even snapped a picture in celebration.
Speaking to website JOE.ie, Carmel said: “It was an awesome feeling for both me and him as we’d travelled over for the game and got tickets.
“To not get to game, you’d be so disappointed.”
Well done Carmel!
