SDLP Councillor Brian Tierney has backed proposals at the Council Business and Culture Committee for matches in Euro 2016 to be screened to people in Derry at the Council facility on Waterloo Place.
He said: “Dedicated fan zones across Europe have been a huge success, bringing people together and creating a great atmosphere throughout the tournament.
Showing Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland matches on the council screen at Waterloo Place offers a real opportunity to unite people in our city through sport.
“I’ve backed proposals at the Council Business and Culture Committee to have the matches broadcast.
“This is a real opportunity to bring people together from both traditions in our city and one that should attract support from all corners.”
