Ald. McClintock said the Guildhall was a magnificent venue to showcase the musical ensemble directed by Chicago-based Allan Dennis, who are visiting Derry as part of their current tour of Ireland and Scotland.
She said: “I am really delighted to be welcoming Midwest Young Artists to our wonderful city for their concert in support of my two chosen charities, Action Cancer NI and Tearfund, the Christian relief and development agency.
“This promises to be a fabulous ‘feel good’ evening of timeless American classics and show songs showcasing the best songs from Broadway musicals, Hollywood films and theatre stages.”
Looking forward to Wednesday’s concert in the Guildhall, Allan Dennis, the orchestra’s conductor said:
“The opportunity for our orchestra to perform in such historic and beautiful venues in both Ireland and Scotland is very exciting. We’ve received such a warm welcome and are looking forward to each event.
“As well as performing in the Guildhall’s magnificent Main Hall, we will be lucky to have some time in Derry to enjoy the city which is something the group are very much looking forward to.”
Irish tenor and Celtic Thunder star Paul Byrom is also delighted to be performing in concert in Derry for the first time.
“After years of performing around Ireland, America and Canada, I’m delighted to be finally coming to sing in the town my Father-in-Law loves so well! He has always told me how welcoming the people of Derry are, and I look forward to spending some time there as well as performing.”
MYAC have performed at a number of prestigious venues across Ireland and Scotland over the past week prior to their arrival in Derry, including Christ Church in Dublin.
