SINN Féin Councillor Tony Hassan has welcomed the news that the Buncrana Road will be resurfaced from Pennyburn Roundabout to Racecourse Road.
The work will start at the end of June at a cost of £160,000 and will finish in the middle of August.
Councillor Hassan said: “While I welcome the news that the Buncrana Road will be resurfaced from the Pennyburn Roundabout to the Racecourse Road, I will continue to press for the upgrading of the road to dual carriageway status.
“This road is a major arterial route into the city from Donegal and we need to maintain it to the highest standards.
“The £160k resurfacing scheme will no doubt increase the quality and safety of the roadway and is long overdue.
“The work will begin at the end of June for a period of six weeks and I would ask local motorists to be patient during this period.
“I have recently written to the Minister requesting a meeting to discuss the long term development of the entire Buncrana Road into dual carriageway status as the volume of traffic using the road is too much for the current lay out,” he added.
