POLICE have removed material gathered for a bonfire in Derry’s Galliagh area.
It followed concerns raised with the PSNI that material could be set a light near homes.
A Foyle police spokesperson said: “Ballyarnett Neighbourhood Team yesterday responded to community concerns and removed these items from Galliagh Park.
“There have been recent cases of fires being lit in the northern estates.
“Residents rightly feared that someone could be injured or damage could be caused to property should these items be burnt near to residential homes.
“We are committed to addressing anti-social behaviour and will respond to issues raised by the local community.”
