SINN Féin councillor Sandra Duffy has welcomed a commitment from health ministers north and south to invest £43 million in the all-Ireland Congenital Heart Disease Network.
She said: “I welcome that my party colleague and health minister Michelle O’Neill MLA joined with her southern counterpart Simon Harris TD this week and committed to a £42million investment in the all-island Congenital Heart Disease Network.
“The fact that they made the announcement in the new Hybrid Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory at Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital Crumlin, Dublin, shows what can be achieved through increased all-Ireland cooperation.
“Illness and disease do not recognise artificial borders and neither should their treatment.
“All-Ireland cooperation on health is all the more important now as we explore the potential impact of the recent EU referendum and its impact on the health service,” added Cllr Duffy.
