DERRY City midfielder Barry McNamee has this afternoon put pen to paper on a new one year extension to his contract.
The new deal will keep him at the club until the end of the 2017 season.
Manager Kenny Shiels spoke of his delight to the club’s website Derycityfc.net just after the deal was done.
He said the extension was part of his plans to “build a stable foundation for the future” of the Brandywell club
“Barry’s been fantastic for us this season,” said Shiels
“He’s a key player and he’s one that I see a really good future for at this club, and it’s important to get players like Barry signed up.
“We’ll be talking to the other lads in the coming weeks and Barry is the first one, so it’s great to have him over the line and we’ll be speaking to the others after the Longford game.”
“The building blocks have to be in place and that’s what we’re trying to do, to build a stable foundation for the future and for next season.
“I think next season will be a massive season and we need to have the right sort of people here and I think keeping the young lads is key.”
