SINN Fein Foyle MLA Martin McGuinness has said that he will be raising the imprisonment of Tony Taylor with the new British Secretary of State James Brokenshire.
Tony Taylor was arrested on the March 10 this year after the then Secretary of State Theresa Villiers had revoked his license, from an earlier conviction.
He was sent to Maghaberry prison without questioning, charge or trial having been denied legal representation.
Family and friends say Tony emerged from Maghaberry in 2014 where he began rebuilding his life, focusing on his Republican activism on community empowerment and prison welfare issues.
They also say he was instrumental in rebuilding the political party – Republican Network for Unity – in the Derry area.
Mr McGuinness said today: “Tony Taylor was returned to prison on the word of previous British Secretary of State Theresa Villiers without any evidence being presented.
“The arrest and imprisonment without recourse to due process is a practice that is totally unacceptable and needs to end immediately.
“I will be raising the issue with new British Secretary of State James Brokenshire and demanding that Tony Taylor is either released immediately or brought before a court and given due process.”
