A 28-year-old man has been arrested in Derry as part of an investigation into human trafficking.
A 26-year-old Eastern European woman is currently receiving treatment for a range of injuries following allegations of rape and assault.
She is also being assessed as a potential victim of human trafficking.
Police said the arrest came after the woman asked for assistance at Strand Road Police Station on Sunday night.
Detective Inspector Mark Bell, from PSNI Human Trafficking Unit, said: “These enquiries, including a search of a property in the city, are continuing.
“We are working with our partner agencies to ensure the woman receives all appropriate support and assistance.”
