Derry to Letterkenny crash tragedy 2THE head of the Donegal Traffic Corps has appealed for anybody who may have witnessed this morning’s crash on the main Derry to Letterkenny road in which two men died has appealed for witnesses.

Garda Inspector Michael Harrison confirmed that two young men died in the head on smash.

One other man is in a serious condition at Letterkenny University Hospital.

He also confirmed the crash was a head-on collision which happened just before 5am on the dual carriageway close to the Trimragh Junction.

The senior Garda officer also confirmed that one of the vehicles involved in the crash was travelling in the WRONG direction on the dual carriageway.

Inspector Harrison appealed: “It is normally a relatively quiet time but there may have been delivery vehicles or people traveling to go on shift work.

“We would appeal to anybody who was on the road at the time and may have noticed a vehicle traveling in an unusual manner to come forward.

“One man has already come forward and we thank him but we would appeal to anybody else who was in the area and saw anything to come forward.”

The leading Garda confirmed that the two vehicles involved in the collision was a grey Mitsubishi Charisma hatchback and a yellow Renault Master van.

It is expected that the road will remain closed for the rest of the day as forensic investigators carry out a full examination of what happened.

The identity of the two young men who were killed has not been released.

But the two, one in his late teens and the other in his 20s, are from the Letterkenny area.

Family members of the two dead men have already visited the scene of the crash this morning.
