THESE are the two young men killed in yesterday morning’s crash on the Derry to Letterkenny road in Donegal.
The men, named locally as Dermot Boyle, 19, and Bernard McGinley, 28, died instantly when they were involved in a head-on collision on the dual carriageway near the Trimragh Junction.
Investigators are still trying to determine why the men’s grey Mitsubishi Charisma car was driving on the wrong side of the road before the crash at 4.45am.
The friends were killed instantly and the driver of the other vehicle involved in the crash, a man in his 40s, is in a serious condition in Letterkenny University Hospital.
He is understood to have suffered multiple injuries but thankfully those injuries are not understood to be life-threatening.
Gardai are now trying to determine if there is a connection between the crash and an earlier robbery at a bar in Drumkeen.
Friends of the men have been paying tribute to them on social media.
Meanwhile a full Garda investigation into the events leading up to the crash are being investigated.
Local Garda Inspector Michael Harrison has appealed for anyone who was in the area of the crash at the time and who may have noticed the incident to come forward.
