Caoimhe-Archibald1A SINN FEIN MLA says Irish language signs have been vandalised in Co Derry.

The signs with place names written in Irish were removed from Park village.

East Derry Sinn Féin MLA Caoimhe Archibald (pictured right) condemned those behind the sectarian incident.

“Local people campaigned hard to get these signs and have expressed their understandable annoyance at this wanton destruction.

“The plastic part of the signs with the road name have been deliberately removed with the Irish language signs being specifically targeted,” she said.

“There is no excuse for this type of vandalism and it will not be tolerated.

“Prior to the original erection of these signs, consultations took place with residents on all the roads and received widespread support.

“We would urge anyone with information about the sign removal to bring it to the attention of the PSNI.”
