THE PSNI in Derry are advising shop owners and businesses to be on the guard for counterfeit notes.
The police say they have been receiving reports of fake notes circulating in the city
And the police are also advising business owners to train up their staff on how to detect counterfeit notes otherwise: It’s your bottom line that will suffer.
A spokesman said: “Here are some tips to get you started and you can find out more by contacting your local branch and getting a copy of the ‘Know your bank notes’ leaflet.
“Does the main printing feel raised?
“Can you see a bold and clear watermark when the note is held up to the light?
“Does the note feel crisp and not limp, waxy or shiny?
“Is the print clear, sharp and well defined?
“Are the colours clear and distinct?
“Compare the suspect note against a note which is known to be genuine.
“Is the security thread continuous when the note is held up to the light?”
Anyone who knows about those behind the circulation of counterfeit and those passing them off to shops and businesses is asked to ring police at Strand Road station on the 101 non emergency number.
