policeroadclosedTHERE is sadness over the news that a man has died in hospital after he was injured in a car crash in Co  Derry.

The 60-year-old was a passenger in a Mazda car that was involved in a collision with a Renault van.

He had been rushed to Altnagelvin Hospital in an”extremely serious condition” as a result of his injuries.

But despite the valiant efforts of doctors and nurses in the emergency department they were unable to save him.

The accident happened on the Foreglen Road in Claudy at around 4 pm on Tuesday, August 2.

The injuries sustained by the drivers of the car and the van are not believed to be life-threatening.

The Fire and Rescue Service say crews from Crescent Link station “worked extensively with Ambulance Service in treating three casualties”.

The Foreglen Road remains closed while the scene is examined but is expected to open later this morning.

Police have asked anyone who witnessed the crash to contact them on the non-emergency 101 number.

Witnesses to the crash have posted on Facebook that the accident was “horrific”.
