DETECTIVES are investigating after a man was shot a number of times in the legs in Derry last night.
The brutal attack by violent dissident republicans happened at the corner of Rinmore Drive in Creggan at around 10.30 pm.
Police said the man was shot in both ankles and once in the thigh.
He was then taken to Altnagelvin hospital where he is in a stable condition.
The police said they are investigating paramilitary involvement in the attack and have appealed for witnesses to contact them.
Sinn Féin councillor Kevin Campbell spoke to the man’s parents and said they were in “shock.”
“I went over and he was in the ambulance at that stage. I saw the family, I spoke to them, I know them very well, they’d be friends of mine,” he said.
“They were basically in shock and the only thing they could tell me was that he had been out for a walk and was shot in both ankles.
“There are obviously some negative groups in the community responsible for that.”
