DERRY City ended the Finn Harps hoodoo tonight with a 3-0 win over the North West rivals.

Thee failure to defeat Finn Harps in the two games to date has been a surprise to many Candystripe fans.

Kenny Shiels’ first game in charge was a visit to Ballybofey, but City were sent back down the road empty handed after a 2-0 defeat.

The Candystripes did bounce back, going on a run which saw them unbeaten for the next two months.

At the return fixture in the Brandywell Sean Houston rescued a point for Harps after Patterson looked to have sealed it for the home side.

But this evening the Candystripes put on a winning peformance at Ballybofey.

Two penalties on 18 and 42 minutes from Aaron McEneff in the first half and early second half goal from Nathan Boyle sent Derry on their way for a well deserved three points.

And as the clocked ticked down, Lukas Schubert on 83 mins and then Keith Ward on 87 made sure of a 5-0 win to put more than a smile on the face of manager Kenny Shiels.

It was Derry City’s biggest win of the season and the Candystripes continue on their winning ways in the league.

The team will be able to savour their victory tonight on the way back to Derry.

But Shiels’ men will only have a short rest as they are back in action again on Monday night, August 15, when they host second placed Cork City at the Brandywell (kick off 7.45 pm).
