MEMBERS of the PSNI’s Armed Response Unit were involved in an operation this afternoon in Co Derry.
The ARU surrounded a property while a PSNI cordon was put in place during the incident in Coleraine.
Locals claimed police swooped following a 999 call and told residents to stay in their homes for their own safety.
Chief Inspector Ian Magee said: “Following an incident at a house in the Mountsandel area of Coleraine police have arrested a 43 year old man on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon with intent to commit an indictable offence and assault on police.
“He is currently in police custody.
“I would like to thank the local community for their patience and support during this incident.”
