THERE is deep sadness across Derry at the news at the death of Cathy AMcCauley, the mother of sectarian murder victim McCauley.
Mrs McCauley passed away on Tuesday after a long illness.
Her Requiem Mass will take place this Friday morning, August 19, at St. Columb’s Church, Chapel Road at 10 am.
Her 38 year-old son passed away in a care unit in June last year, nine years after he was attacked by a mob at a barbecue in the Waterside.
Paul never regained consciousness after the attack and lived in a vegetative state.
One person, Daryl Proctor, was convicted over the attack.
But a total of 15 people are believed to have been involved in the unprovoked sectarian attack linked to the UDA in the Waterside.
Proctor – who now calls himself Piper John McClements – has since been charged with his murder.
Also charged with his murder is Matthew Brian Gillen, from Abbeydale in Derry.
He is also charged with causing grievous bodily harm and attempting to cause grievous bodily harm.
