TWO families today will hold funerals for their loved ones – Cathy McCauley and Stevie Martin – who died in different circumstances just days apart.
Their untimely deaths have left their family and friends heartbroken.
There was deep sadness across Derry yesterday when the news broke that Cathy AMcCauley, the mother of sectarian murder victim McCauley, had died
Mrs McCauley passed away on Tuesday after a long illness.
What is even more devastating is that she will never see her son’s killers face the ultimate justice and a lengthy jail sentence for robbing her of her son.
Her Requiem Mass will take place this morning at St. Columb’s Church, Chapel Road at 10 am.
Her 38 year-old son passed away in a care unit in June last year, nine years after he was attacked by a mob at a barbecue in the Waterside.
Paul never regained consciousness after the attack and lived in a vegetative state.
An hour later, a service will be held for Stephen ‘Stevie’ Martin who went missing almost four weeks ago.
The singer/musician – who was popularly known by his stage name ‘Rainy Boy Sleep’ – was found dead last Saturday in Co Sligo.
Gardai had been searching for him after his car was in at the pier carpark at Fanad Lighthouse in Co Donegal last week.
His remains have been reposing at his mother Marina Martin’s residence, 24 Hazelwood Drive, Lifford from 6pm on Wednesday evening.
A funeral service for Stevie will be held at 11 am this morning at the he Derry/Donegal Christian Fellowship, 9 Northland Road, Derry.
Cremation is afterwards in Lakeland Crematorium, Co Cavan which is for family only.
The Martin family have requested no flowers.
