TWO families mourned today at the funerals for the sad passing of their loved ones – Cathy McCauley and Stevie Martin.
Musician and singer Stephen ‘Stevie’ Martin – who used the stage name ‘Rainy Boy Sleep’ – was found dead last Saturday in Co Sligo after going missing over three weeks ago.
Gardai had been searching for him after his car was in at the pier carpark at Fanad Lighthouse in Co Donegal last week.
His remains had been reposing at his mother Marina Martin’s residence, 24 Hazelwood Drive, Lifford until last night.
Hundreds of mourners braved the elements to attend a funeral service for Stevie which was held this morning at 11 am in the Derry/Donegal Christian Fellowship on Derry’s Northland Road.
Cremation followed afterwards in Lakeland Crematorium, Co Cavan which was for his family only.
The Martin family had requested no flowers.
Instead donations, if desired, were to be made to Hope Outreach Charity and the RNLI Donegal c/o Shaun Kelly and Son Funeral Directors, Oakfield, Raphoe.
There was deep sadness across Derry on Wednesday when the news broke that Cathy McCauley, the mother of sectarian murder victim Paul McCauley, had died
Mrs McCauley passed away on Tuesday after a long illness.
What is even more devastating is that she will never see her son’s killers face the ultimate justice and a lengthy jail sentence for robbing her of her son.
Her Requiem Mass was held this morning at 10 am in St. Columb’s Church, Chapel Road.
Her 38 year-old son passed away in a care unit in June last year, nine years after he was attacked by a mob at a barbecue in the Waterside.
Paul never regained consciousness after the attack and lived in a vegetative state.
Two men are currently awaiting trial for his murder.
Rest In Peace Stevie and Mrs McCauley.
