Body of missing John Thompson found in River Bann

POLICE have called off a missing person’s search for a Co Derry man after his remains were found in a river.

John Thompson, from Portstewart, was reported missing on Saturday and the PSNI had issued an appeal to try and locate him.

The 56-year-old was last seen wearing three quarter length blue shorts and a red raincoat.

The PSNI say the search for John has now been called off after his body was found on Monday in the River Bann.

It is believed his death is not being treated as suspicious.
