FLEDGLING runners still have time to register for Derry City and Strabane District Council’s Waterside Half Marathon 2k Family Fun Run this Sunday morning.
While the ‘Full House’ signs have been up on registration for the main race since last week, places remain available for the smaller run with registration open between 8.30am and 9.30am at the Foyle Arena on the morning of the event.
The junior race has been timed to run in tandem with the main event and starts at 10.15am leaving from the same start gantry as the main Half Marathon which gets underway 15 minutes beforehand.
“With the main race starting at 10am, the intention is that younger runners can complete their 2K run and then support family members in the main race,” Race Organiser Gerry Lynch explained.
“The course takes in the Ebrington site and the greenways of St Columb’s Park and the runners will use the same start and finish gantry as the main race.
“It has proved a popular addition to the main event in recent years and serves as a good introduction to organised running for young runners in a fun and friendly environment.”
All the participants will receive a race medal and a goody bag at the end of the race which begins with a lap around the Ebrington site before swinging down and underneath the Peace Bridge, through the riverside greenway before finishing at the St Columb’s Park running track.
