TWO Derry lads impressed the judges on last night’s X Factor heat to make it through to boot camp.
Conor McGinty from Derry city secured four ‘yes’ votes from the judges for his performance on the hit ITV show.
The 21-year-old, who works as a photographic assistance in Boots Chemists, sang the song ‘Say Something’ by A Great Big World.
His mum, dad and girlfriend were there to support him.
His performance was praised by all four judges, Simon Cowell, Louis Walsh, Sharon Osborne and Nicole Scherzinger.
Also through to the next stage is Niall Sexton from Magherafelt
The 22-year-old barman, who lives at home with his mum and brothers, was praised by the judges following his audition on Saturday’s show for his interpretation of ‘Gravity’.
But Niall is no stranger to the singing competition.
He previously hit out and accused the show of “hiding” him after losing his spot on the show to Craig Colton in 2011.
After storming through the audition process in series eight, which also featured judge Louis Walsh who failed to recognise him, the singer made it down to the final 12 boys.
However, after failing to make it to Judges Houses, he accused the show of favouring fellow Irish contestant Janet Devlin.
In a scathing tweet, he wrote: “I was on UK X Factor – but got hidin as Janet Devlin is Irish to. So they hid me [sic].”
During the emotional scenes in 2011, Niall narrowly missed out on a place at Judges Houses after Gary Barlow awarded Craig Colton the final spot.
In 2014, he contemplated applying for the show again after penning an emotional online blog, but decided against it.
In the blog, he wrote: “I might audition…but since Simon is back I’m sure they will be picky with who goes through.”
But one North West lad didn’t make it through to the judge’s houses.
Jordan Devine, 19, from Strabane stunned Simon when he told him he was excited that Louis Walsh was back on the judging panel describing him as a “talent magnet – someone who attracts talent!”.
The potato farmer had to dig deep for his rendition of ‘Candy’ by Robbie Williams.
Sadly, it is back to ploughing the furrows as young Jordan got four ‘no’s’ from the judges.
Nicole said: “I think you are a precious little potato! I just want to hold his little face.”
Louis told him: “I think you have got something – Irish charm.”
Mrs O said: “I have to say no but thank you for entertaining us.”
