22-year-old man to face Derry court charged over assault which left a man fighting for his life in hospital

DETECTIVES have charged a 22-year-old man over an assault in Derry which left a man critically injured.

The injured man, who is also in his 20s, was attacked in Waterloo Street at 12.45 am on Sunday.

The 22-year-old man was arrested a short time later during a follow up investigation.

Detectives have now charged him with causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

He has also been charged with possession of a Class A drug.

The accused is due in Derry Magistrates’ Court this morning for a first remand hearing.

The victim of the attack has now been transferred from Altnagelvin Hospital to the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast.
