THE city and district will be buzzing with activity this Friday evening as over 40 arts and cultural venues including museums, galleries, cathedrals, studios and libraries open their doors to the public, free of charge to celebrate Culture Night 2016.
A wide programme of family friendly events will take place as part of the annual celebration, with people flocking from near and far to experience an evening of culture.
The Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Alderman Hilary McClintock spoke of looking forward to the event and what to expect.
“Culture Night is one the highlights of our Council calendar of events. This year’s programme is packed full of dance, music, song, film, art, digital events and a series of talks and tours in some of the most historic cultural buildings of the city and district.
“Culture Night is a great opportunity for people of all ages to get out there and experience culture and heritage in different venues. Where better to do that than in our newly formed Council district rich in arts, culture and heritage.
!Some highlights include; a special performance by Encore choir at the Garden of Reflection, dancing by the Sollus School of Highland Dance, the Nerve’s Centre’s SYNC performers at the on stage at the Craft Village and a Sword smiths Treasure Hunt.
“Winning the title as the first UK City of Culture in 2013 showed the world how much we value our culture, let’s celebrate this on Culture Night.
!The evening celebrations will include activities and events on our famous City Walls, streets, museums, churches and other various venues in the city,
!Strabane, Bready and beyond as academics, artists, singers and performers of all kinds entertain us for the evening.
