DETECTIVES have arrested a man after another male was the victim of a hatchet attack in Derry in the early hours of this morning.
The attack happened in Chapel Road area of the city and the victim sustained cuts to his arm and face, police have arrested a 31-year-old man.
The man was detained on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent, possession of an offensive weapon with intent to commit an indictable offence, aggravated burglary and common assault.
Detective Sergeant Brian Reid, of the PSNI’s Reactive and Organised Crime, said:
“I would appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time and who may have witnessed this incident, or who may have any information that could assist in our investigation, to contact detectives at Strand Road quoting reference 121 of 15th September.
“Alternatively, information can be given anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
