POLICE say they are aware of a number of attempts to pass counterfeit money in the Eglinton and Derry areas.
Retailers and members of the public should check bank notes during transactions
Here are some things to look out for are :-
Paper Quality – Feel the note, it should be crisp and slightly rough in the heavily printed areas. It shouldn’t be limp, waxy or shiny
Print Quality – Printing should be sharp and well defined, not made up of tiny dots, with no blurred edges. The colour should be clear and distinct with no hazy fringes
Security Features – Genuine bank notes have built in security features, Metallic Gold Foil, Cleartext thread etc.
A police spokesperson said: “If you have the slightest doubt compare the note with one that you know is genuine.
“If you have any concerns or have or receive a note which you believe is counterfeit contact police by ringing 101 or calling into your local station.”
