SINN Féin MEP Martina Anderson has said young people are very concerned about the potential impacts of Brexit.
The Derry politician said: “Communities across the North and throughout Ireland are hugely concerned about the possible impact of being dragged out of the EU against their wishes.
“I spoke to a group of young people in school in south Antrim last week who were rightly exercised about the potential implications of Brexit.
“They were very clued in about the opportunities that the EU opens up for them in terms of study across Europe and future career prospects.
“They also made it clear that they agreed with Sinn Féin’s long-held position that the voting age should be lowered to 16 so they could have a say on their future.
“It is clear there is widespread concern right across our community that the vote of the majority of people in the North to remain in the EU should be respected,” she added.
