MAYOR of Derry City and Strabane District Council Alderman Hilary McClintock is urging local people to ditch their regular attire and unleash their inner superhero in aid of her chosen charities next month.
Wannabe caped crusaders can take part in the Mayor’s ‘Superhero Week’, running from Monday October 24th through to Monday October 31st, when local people can dress as their favourite super human idol in return for a donation to charity.
Schools, workplaces, offices, community groups or any gathering of friends and family can get involved in the initiative where the Action Cancer and Tearfund charities are the beneficiaries.
“This is a great opportunity to raise funds and awareness for charity while having a lot of fun in the process,” said Alderman McClintock at this week’s launch in the Guildhall.
“The City and District could certainly be a colourful place for that week as local people undergo their transformations.
“Schools and colleges can get involved by inviting students to come in dressed as a superhero for the day or decorating their own costumes while workplaces can also show their support by coming in dressed up or even sponsoring their managers to don a costume for the day.
“The week coincides with the city and district’s Halloween celebrations too so local people can get into the superhero spirit and raise money by being sponsored to dress up during the festivities.”
Schools and groups who want to take part can register now to nominate a date for their event.
The Mayor will endeavour to visit your school or group on your Superhero Day so early registration is recommended.
