SINN Féin councillor Eric McGinley has welcomed the news that the 30mph road traffic signs have now been installed on the Groarty Road.
This follows a long campaign for the speed limit to be reduced on the road outside Groarty Primary School.
Councillor McGinley said “This is great news.
“There has been a long campaign for the speed limit to be reduced on the Cosquinn Road outside Groarty Primary school.
“It is always very busy at the best of times; a lot of motorists use this road as a shortcut and it was clear the speed limit was far too high.
“We spoke directly with the Minister Chris Hazzard just prior to the summer holidays and raised all those concerns with him.
“He announced at the start of September that there was to be a reduction of the speed limit on the road.
“I am pleased that the new 30 mph signage has now been installed and would appeal to drivers to adhere to the new speed limit.
“It’s important to commend everyone who has campaigned for safety measures on this road over recent years,” he added.
