POLICE are warning the public in Derry to be on their guard over a new telephone scam.
Officers say fraudsters are offering members of the public money for bad service that you have received.
Then they will “accidentally” overpay you and ask you to return the extra money, which could amount to thousands of pounds.
A police spokesperson said: “The most recent scammers have pretended to be from Talk Talk but they could pretend to be from any well known company.
“DO NOT GIVE OUT FINANCIAL DETAILS ON A COLD CALL.
“Report any suspicions to Police on 101 and/or Action Fraud via their website or telephone number 0300 123 2040. Please pass this message on to friends and family.
“Look out for older relatives and neighbours who may be particularly vulnerable to this type of scam.”
