THE A31 Magherafelt Bypass has been completed several weeks ahead of schedule.

The £35 million road scheme opens tomorrow, Thursday, October 6.

It is estimated that around 25,000 vehicles a day travel through the town centre at rush hour times.

But with the bypass opening, that number is expected to fall to around 18,000 with the opening of the new bypass.

There has been a mixed response to the bypass from local traders.

Some say it will be good for the town while others say it will hit their trade.

Sara Jane Knox from the Chamber of Commerce is pleased about the new road. “It can get quite bad, especially in the mornings and afternoons,” she added.
