SINN Féin Councillor Christopher Jackson has branded the decision by Bank of Ireland to close the bank account of the Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign as ‘outrageous’.

He added that an explanation was due and urged the bank to reopen the account.

Councillor Jackson said: “The decision by Bank of Ireland to close the account is outrageous.

“The Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign are an established advocacy group that have spent years protesting against the treatment of the Palestinian people.

“To close their account citing that they associate with a ‘high risk country’.

“This is not only outrageous; this is insulting to the Palestinian people.

“The IPSC are a non-profit NGO who handed their audit reports to the bank. Funding is used for advocacy with no funds being sent directly to Palestine.

“Bank of Ireland should reopen the account and offer a public explanation as to why this happened in the first place.

“Bank of Ireland cannot stay silent on this matter.”
