SINN Féin councillor Patricia Logue has welcomed the planning decision on a new road at Nailors Row.
Apex Housing has applied to renew the road and carry out other environmental improvements.
Cllr Logue said: “I welcome this announcement.
“The renewal of this road will enhance the safety of the residents in the House in Wells and Alexander House.
“Anyone who is in this area on a daily basis will tell you that this is a very busy road, there is also a lot of cars parked in this area and at times it is very congested.
“So anything that helps that is good news.
“I would also like to inform residents that the road at Bishop Street just outside Long Tower Court will be closed until October 14 to allow a new road to be laid.
“This will obviously cause disruption for residents and motorists.
“The newly laid footpaths and other work that has taken place there will also help and improve the overall environmental look of the area,” added Cllr Logue.
