BUNCRANA pier hero Davitt Walsh has been honoured again for his heroic work in saving a baby girl.
The 30 year old, from Kerrykeel man saved baby Rioghnach-Ann McGrotty when her family’s jeep came off the slipway in Buncrana in March.
Tonight his bravery has been acknowledged at the National Marine Gallantry and Meritorious Service Awards.
He said: “It is a great honour to be here. The award is a great award for myself and my family.”
Mr Walsh received the Michael Heffernan Gold Medal for Marine Gallantry for showing bravery at huge peril to his own safety to risk life, in an effort to save the life of a child.
He was presented with his award at the National Marine Gallantry and Meritorious Service Awards 2016 tonight at Farmleigh House, Phoenix Park hosted by the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Shane Ross, TD.
The awards recognise outstanding acts of courage, heroism, skill and initiative in the context of marine emergency incidents.
The scheme also recognises exceptional dedication to duty in the execution of Ireland’s marine emergency response.
