SINN Féin Housing spokesperson Councillor Tony Hassan has said that a partnership approach is needed to tackle homelessness.
Cllr Hassan said: “There is a growing problem of homelessness in our society with across 40,000 people across the North on housing waiting lists.
“Twenty thousand are declaring themselves homeless each year, hostels for homeless families are at bursting point and so few homes are being built the problem gets worse.
“This week we marked world day of homelessness.
“I believe we need to take stock of the implications and impact of homelessness on individuals and families.
“It impacts on people’s quality of life, on people’s mental health, on education and on employment.
“I believe that the assembly needs to work in partnership with housing providers and the wider housing sector to deal with the scourge of homelessness.”
