POLICE have praised a “brave” member of the public who made a citizen’s arrest in Derry.
The incident happened on Friday night when a teenager tried to hold up a shop in Glenfada Park.
“A member of the public chased the suspect, who was believed to have a knife🔪, and apprehended him until Police arrived,” say PSNI Foyle.
“We want to publicly thank him for his brave and heroic actions.
“Given the dangers this is not always advisable so we can’t encourage others. But….”
The teenager was taken to Strand Road police station for questioning.
He has since been charged with attempted robbery.
The teen male is has also been charged over a number of other unrelated offences in the city.
He is to face Derry Magistrates’ Court this morning, Monday, October 16, for a first remand hearing.
