SINN Féin’s Raymond McCartney has said it’s bizarre that the opposition in the Assembly actually are proposing to build less houses than the Executive.
And the Foyle MLA called for the Housing Executive to be given the resources to build more social housing during a debate on housing provision.
He said: “Demand for social housing is an issue that all elected representatives are familiar with and one which we deal with on a daily basis.
“It was therefore bizarre that the opposition in the Assembly this week actually proposed to build less houses than the Executive.
“You couldn’t make this up!
“We are committed to addressing the need and I believe the Housing Executive should be given the financial resources to build more social houses.
“This would be a game changer in terms of the delivery of social housing,” he added.
