SINN Féin Councillor Colly Kelly has condemned an arson attack on the building site of the new Museum of Free Derry currently under construction.
Thugs broke in overnight and set fire to building material.
Detectives at Strand Road have launched an arson inquiry.
Said Cllr Kelly: “I would urge anyone who sees people messing about around the building site to contact the police straight away.
“It’s shocking that anyone would even consider trying to destroy this new building under construction.
“It’s also very worrying that this building is surrounded by houses on all sides.
“Once a fire starts no one knows what is going to happen and the damage it is going to cause.”
Anyone with information about those behind the arson attack is asked to detectives at Strand Road on the 101 number.
