SINN Féin MLA Caoimhe Archibald said the economic statistics released today showing a 0.5% increase in the British economy means nothing to the standard of living for ordinary people.
Caoimhe Archibald said: ʺStatistics released from the Offices for National Statistics show that the British economy has expanded by 0.5% in the July-to-September period.
ʺThese statistics are not reason for celebration as they mean no increase in the standard of living for ordinary people.
ʺHousehold budgets are under increasing pressure week on week.
“Fuel prices are going up costing the average family an additional £27 a month.
“500 litres of home heating oil has gone up by on average £60.
“And the cost of people’s weekly food shop is also increasing.
“While Tory Ministers pat themselves on the back over not yet crashing the economy, the reality is that the true cost of Brexit is hitting ordinary people in the pocket and will continue to do so,” added the East Derry MLA.
