MAYOR of Derry City and Strabane District Council Alderman Hilary McClintock has welcomed the announcement by the Communities Minister Paul Givan to provide £268,300 for a shop front scheme at Derry’s Strand Road and Clooney Terrace.
The Mayor said; “This funding will have a significant impact on businesses in both the Waterside and Cityside areas of Londonderry.
“At a time when a lot of businesses face economic challenges these improvements will assist in transforming some of the city’s busiest areas and encourage other property owners to maintain the general upkeep of our commercial premises.
“The ReStore scheme is an excellent initiative that demonstrates the ongoing commitment to supporting local businesses offered by a range of local partners.”
The Department for Communities has worked with Derry City and Strabane District Council and the City Centre Initiative to develop the ReStore scheme.
A total of 16 properties will benefit from the project which aims to improve and provide some uniformity to shop frontage appearances within the area.
The improvement works include the installation of new shop frontages, painting, replacement of rainwater goods, and repairing or replacement of windows, doors and external plasterwork.
The project is being managed by the Council in partnership with the City Centre Initiative. Works have already commenced on site and will be completed before 31 March 2017.
