SINN Féin MEP Martina Anderson has said victims of Thalidomide should be entitled to compensation.
Those left with birth defects are due to meet first Minister Arlene Foster in a bid to secure compensation.
The drug was developed in Germany as a sedative, but it was also used to ease morning sickness in pregnant women.
It was linked to thousands of birth defects and was withdrawn in 1961.
Ms Anderson said today: “Many Thalidomide survivors right across Europe have suffered for more than 50 years.
“These people are getting older and their health conditions are deteriorating and require financial assistance.
“I have met victims and survivors of Thalidomide and have been moved by their courage and determination to seek redress for what happened to them.
“The German government set up a Special Needs Fund to help victims with their medical care.
“The Executive and all member states across Europe should support the European Parliament’s call for the German government to compensate victims of Thalidomide,” she added.
