SINN Féin Councillor Eric McGinley has welcomed the installation of pedestrian safety barriers outside Gaelscoil na Daróige in Ballymagroarty.
Cllr. McGinley said: “In response to concerns raised by representatives of the Gaelscoil na Daróige I held a site meeting with Transport NI at which myself and the school were given a commitment that pedestrian safety barriers would be installed.
“The parents and teachers had expressed their fears that the absence of barriers were endangering children who were running on to the busy road when leaving the school.
“In conjunction with the placement of new flashing signs the installation of these barriers will provide increased protection to the children.
“I want take this opportunity to thank Transport NI for responding positively to this safety issue,” he added.
